LeMars, Iowa - Regular Full-Time Position at Le Mars Wastewater Facility. 40 hrs./wk., day shift hours, with rotational on-call and overtime pay for weekends and as needed. The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for assisting with general operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Facilities, its associated equipment, processes, and Wastewater Pumping Stations. Minimum Requirements: High school graduate or GED certification equivalent. Knowledge, experience, and or schooling in operation, troubleshooting, and repair of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment used in wastewater treatment is a plus. Biology and Math proficiency are helpful. Ability to pass testing and obtain a Grade 1 Wastewater Operator License within eighteen (18) months from date of hire and a Grade II Operator License within thirty-six (36) months from date of hire. City requires a valid Iowa driver's license and provide proof of insurance. Iowa Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required. Wages, dependent on wastewater certifications range from $24.33-$35.88/hr., with the ability to advance.

Candidates must be able to/willing to learn to operate pumping equipment and make minor adjustments, collect samples and use a computer. Job duties may plant and equipment maintenance, excavation and repair of water or sewer lines and other physically demanding work. Must be able to learn to monitor water plant equipment and perform work that requires accurate reading of meters and recordkeeping. Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and emergency calls. Must possess or be able to obtain a State Water Plant Operator certificate. Starting salary for fiscal year 2024, plus excellent benefits:
• Utilities Operator Assistant - $24.82 per hour with no certifications.
• Utilities Operator I - $27.58 per hour with a Grade I operator's certificate issued by the State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in a wastewater related field or the Iowa Water Environment Association (IAWEA).
Hours are Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PM with additional on-call/overtime hours as needed.

• Maintain records.
• Recognize and evaluate potential operational or mechanical problems and advise operational staff or supervisor.
• Assist the public by listening to complaints, inquiries, and problems, and taking the appropriate actions necessary to correct them and advise the supervisor or superintendent when necessary.
• Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs on all operational equipment, buildings, grounds, vehicles and appurtenances as directed including general cleaning.
• Respond to sewer service calls, lift station and manhole monitor alarms, and other emergencies as directed.
• Perform basic field tests. • Perform office duties as assigned. • Assist other city departments as directed.
